Farmer's Market

Today we went to the Indoor Farmer's at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Mamaroneck. I love farmer's markets and am excited to check out the local produce once summer hits. I've heard there is a weekly farmer's market in the main parking lot in Rye...within walking distance!

But for now, we'll settle for the indoor market.

Here are my finds from today. These carrots are soooooooooooooo sweet, and I've already had three slices of toasted cinnamon raisin bread with a healthy spread of Brummel and Brown. Hmmmmmm.

Projects

Who doesn't like a good looking fabric?? One of the things I have been looking forward to doing more in NY is sewing. With no photography business (for now), I have more time on my hands to try some other creative outlets.

Mom taught me how to sew when I was in junior high and I used to make a lot of my own clothes. I usually made skirts and dresses, but I have done an occasional shirt. I don't know if I'm brave enough to sew clothes again without Mom close by, so I'm sticking to sewing decorative things.

With my closest JoAnn fabrics 30 miles away with $10 in bridge tolls, I've had to resort to some other places to buy fabric as well. On-line, or IKEA (which by the way has a great fabric-by-the-yard section).

So here are some sample materials that I've purchased, washed, and will hopefully be creating into some cool things. I'll keep you posted as the projects are done!

Hanging at the Homestead

So now that Grandma and Grandpa have left and we have the house to ourselves, I think we were a little depressed today. No more entertaining, trip planning, exciting drives or train rides into the City. So ya, I think we were a little depressed. Also because there is a very large stack of mail staring at me and an even bigger pile (or piles) of laundry waiting for me in the basement.

So we spent most of the morning in our pj's hanging out in the playroom. And I, of course, decided to do a little rearranging while singing along with the Little Einsteins.

As a photographer, I love light, and I've realized that the playroom would make the most amazing studio for me if I had my business out here. It's big enough for equipment, and has a huge walk-in closet. My kid's toys don't know how good they have it....they have more storage space than my own closet.

So when Tyson asked me to take his clothes off so he could put on a princess dress, I of course ran for my camera and took advantage of all the gorgeous light.

I just wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone who has left a comment. I love reading them, and they often make my day! I haven't figured out the best way to reply, and with some of you, I can't find any contact information!

Michelle Cowgill, of course I remember you! I remember how you braved the hill behind your ceremony with me at your wedding so we could take some shots in trees, and I remember how intimate your ceremony was. PLEASE leave another comment with some way to write you back! I hope you guys are doing well.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for comments, e-mails etc. I love them, and I'm glad you like to stop by and read. It makes me feel like I have friends out here in NY, even if you're not in NY.

Natural History Museum

President's Day...did anyone see us on Martha today? We DVR'd it and we were totally on there! Nice.

We went to the Natural History Museum today to see the butterflies. Sounds exciting, doesn't it? Well, it was pretty cool.

We arrived a bit early, thanks to my stellar planning and a tendency to leave too early, so we stopped by Central Park and the Diana Ross playground. I wonder if she actually paid for that playground to be built, or if she just donated some money to the Central Park Conservancy and got it named after her. As we were admiring the surrounding residential apartments, especially the penthouses on the top floors, we were trying to picture her up there checking out who was playing on her playground. May be a stretch....

We became members of the Natural History Museum, because....well, it's the Natural History Museum, but by going on President's Day, we were joined by all the City kids who were out of school. No problem though, we had a great time despite the crowds.






The butterfly exhibit was pretty cool. They only let in so many people at a time, so you can wander through the pavilion at your own pace, and it's already about 85 degrees inside, so no need for it to get any hotter! There were about a million butterflies (a bit of an exageration) flying around, but none were brave enough to land on us even though we did ask nicely.











On the way back to the car, a fire truck pulled up from it's latest call, and it was amazing to watch it stop, back up into the firehouse, and disappear from sight. The driver had about 3 inches of clearance on each side, but within about 60 seconds, the truck pulled up, backed in, and the door was shut.

I have always prided myself in my parking skills, especially parallel parking, but I have nothing on those guys.

My Most Perfect Day....

What do call a day when your in-laws are in town to watch the kids ALL day free of charge, and your husband wants to spend all day in New York City with you wandering around and going to flea markets??? Perfect. That's what I call it!!!

There are two flea markets in the City that I've wanted to check out, and they are open only on Saturdays and Sundays. The first is the Antique Garage (West 25th between 6th and 7th), which is a two story flea market in a parking garage, and the second is the Hell's Kitchen outdoor flea market (West 39th between 9th and 10th).

Wade was such a patient gem. Wow. He knows how much I love to sift through stuff (or "junk" as he likes to call it), and with no kids in tow, I was like a kid in a candy store!!! These are my treasures from our day...

After patiently watching me sift through all the treasures at the Antique Garage, we found a Goodwill store (yes, even in Manhattan), and then rested our weary feet at the Antique Cafe (www.antiquecafeny.com) for almost two hours. I had the most amazing quiche, and to continue a date tradition we have, we took each others picture with our food. Wade had chicken veggie soup and then we finished our time there with some AMAZING carrot cake.

After wandering the Hell's Kitchen Flea Market, we visited B&H Photo, and then walked by a movie theater and decided to go in and see what was playing. Perfect timing!! We were just in time for "He's Just Not That Into You". Poor Wade!!! What a girl-kinda day! Bless him. Love you so much! It was the perfect end to a perfect day.
